What Pound Test Line should I use with an Emmrod Compact Fishing System?

The Emmrod Short Top Water Rod

The Emmrod Short Top Water Rod

Obviously, the size of the fish you are targeting plays a role here.  Frankly, I am not that concerned with the top end of the scale.  I am more interested in our efforts to catch minnows.  How LIGHT of  a line can we get away with using?

The Nature of the Emmrod Fishing gear rods is they are a bit stiffer.  One of the very few abilities we do not have is to go to those ultra-light lines.  As a general rule, use ten pound test line as a minimum weight line.  You will find the act of casting or vigorous pull backs snapping those two to four pound lines.

As with all rules, there are exceptions.  One of my customers, Phillip, has terrified the fish in the ocean near where he lives with his fishing prowess and collection of Emmrod Compact Fishing poles.  He is a fair sort of person who DOES want to give the fish a fighting chance so he likes to stretch the effort by using lighter lines.

He expressed his excitement to me recently after trying out his Emmrod Top Water Rod.  He could actually use his lighter lines.  I provided him the shorter version; however, I imagine the longer version would accomplish the same thing.

So, I have a request from all you Emmrod Fishermen out there.  Please send me feedback on how you stretch your system to use lighter lines.

I am going to make a category of blogs called “Fishing Tips” where I can share the wisdom of the various fishermen and women out there who are enjoying Emmrod.  Every tool has its tricks.  Let’s Collaborate!

Ordering Emmrod Compact Fishing Systems from outside of the US

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Hi, I follow my hits on a daily basis.  Lately, I have noticed a lot of hits from outside of the US.  Additionally I have had a couple of orders from outside the United States of America.  I think it is about time for me to make a few p0ints.

1.  Ordering from Canada.  Looks like you need to figure in about 15 percent sales tax and add about 6 – 8 days for processing through Canadian Customs.  My order shipped just fine but was delayed for close to a week and my buyer had to pay those taxes.  He said his Emmrod compact fishing poles were worth it and he was pretty happy with them thus far!  I do accept credit card orders from Canada as I do not have to worry about the banks on them.

2.  Ordering from anywhere other than the USA and Canada.  Because we have had a consistent problem with credit card fraud and are not protected by the usage laws here for use in other countries, we can not accept credit card payment on your orders.  I am very sorry as there just is nothing more convenient.  I AM checking into Pay Pal as that might be an easier alternative.  In the meantime, I will ship to overseas destinations and accept orders from overseas with the following understandings:

a.  The payment has to be by a Money Wire to my bank account.  To calculate the full amount due, here is the general formula:  Merchandise + Shipping/handling/insurance + $13.00 Money order processing cost at my bank.    The actual cost of postage is really tough to figure and we would need to do individual costing to figure that out.  I would also include insurance in that calculation.  Shipping by DHL, FEDEX or UPS may be a better option.   I do look forward to receiving orders from overseas and will work to make your Emmrod Fishing Experience dreams a reality.  Email me with what you think you want to buy.  Also include a brief description of how you fish and what you fish for including the weight of the typical fish you catch.  With the high shipping costs, money wire costs and potential customs costs, I want to be sure you get the best pole for the fishing you want to do.

Thanks.

Eloika Lake, Spokane County, Wa Fishing conditions update Aug 10

Enjoy the Emmrod Kayak King Fishing Pole for all your Eloika Lake Fishing

Hi Spokane County area fishermen, ladies, boys and girls.  Here is your August 10th Eloika Lake fishing update.   I touch bases with Lauri and Jerry of Jerry’s landing every couple weeks or so to find out how the fish are biting.  They are the experts who are on scene providing much of the bait, the lures, and some of the non-motorized boats to the fisher folk who stay at their resort and campground.  They are a convenient place to fill up on those necessities you forgot to bring with you through their small store so stop in and visit.  Their contact information is below.

If it is perch and crappie you crave, disappointment may be in your future as both are slow right now.  If you want to go wit to wit, hook to fin with bass, load up and head for Eloika Lake.  People using Jerry’s Landing caught a five pound bass last week and others caught two four pound bass this week.

There are two ways to get your boat in the water.  The public launch is located at the end of Bridges road on the east side of the lake–North on Highway two to Miller’s One Stop, left at the flashing light and you drive right to the public launch area. Do not forget the parking pass available at any fishing license seller.

The second is Jerry’s landing where there is a small fee  ($3) to park and launch your boat but you also have the store where you can stock up on the last minute needs you forgot or replenish what you use up.  You can also get updates on where the action is and how to fish.  Huge value for small dollars.  Tell them “Dave sent me.”

Jerry’s Landing:  41114 N Lake Shore Road, Elk Washington.  PHONE:  (509) 292 2337.  N on HWY 2 past Miller’s onestop to Oregon Road.  (If you get to the divided highway, you have gone too far.)    After turning left, go to Regal/Eloika Lake Front Road (Same intersection, regal to the right, E. L. front road to the left.) Turn left and follow that around to Jerry’s landing.

Happy fishing.

Chataqua Craft Fair 9-11 July 2010 In Chewelah

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Quick update on Chewelah’s Chataqua Craft Fair.

Two days down, Sunday to go.  It has been an interesting show.  My main regret is not being able to actually enjoy the show!  Selling Emmrod by myself in my booth pretty much nails my foot to the floor.  If I can get up there a bit early today, I might run through the craft show.

There has been a regular stream of people moving up and down the street and it has been a friendly show.  Sales are reflective of the current state of economic affairs, sadly.  I will remind folks who read this today that I have a fine selection of daylilies.  I really rather not carry them all home so, if you are interested in daylilies, come by and dicker with me today!

Hi folks. I will be setting up across from Zips during the Chewelah Chataqua Craft Fair this weekend. I will have a full array of Emmrod products as well as the Rhino Tarp Clip on hand so come by and learn about these great products.  Bring the wife, I will have a great selection of Daylilies as well.  The Daylilies come from my Garden in the Deer Park area. We grow about 250 kinds and I have about 80 kinds potted up and available for sale.

The Rhino Tarp Clips are the perfect product for all those camping tie down needs. Come see them in action!

Look for the Emmrod Packer, the Emmrod Mountaineer, the Emmrod Kayak King, the Emmrod Stream Master Fly Rod, The Emmrod Gulf Master I and II and the Rugged Flex pole designed for those big guys over 100 pounds.  Catching minnows to monsters, little to lunker, Emmrod is the rod for you!

Exciting New Product! Rhino Grip Instant Tarp Eye + a million other uses!

Observie the powerful teeth that can create instant gromets!

Observe the powerful teeth that can create instant gromets!

I am always looking for places, people, products for www.MyCompactFishing.com that are related to, accent or compliment The Emmrod Compact Fishing system and my web site.  I have two new entries, one a destination and the other the Rhino Grip Instant Tarp Eye which is the subject of this blog.  Hang on and see what you can do with this great item!

Why is this the best “instant grommet” on the market?  Because it is so versatile.  The bolt can be removed and reinstalled through the grommet then tightened down so the clamp holds the tarp.  This doubling of the grip on the tarp protects the life of the tarp and helps keep it in place in weather.

Reinstall the bolt through the eye and tighten down doubling strength

If there is a missing grommet or the distance between grommets is too far for your application, you can install a clip at whatever interval gets the job done for you.

Instant Grommet replaces torn gromet.

Once installed, you have two options for connection to the bungee cords or line holding the tarp in place.  You can do a quick catch with the hook or if you want more permanency, run the line through the eye.

Now, besides the obvious tarp application, how can you USE the Rhino Clip?  Kind of like the lover of yore–How do I love Thee?  Let me count the wheys. (Maybe that was the cheese maker?)
